Kathleen Joan Reichs currently holds a position as adjunct professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She completed her studies at Northwestern University in 1975.

Kathy Reichs is revered in her field and holds a certificate from the American Board of Forensic Anthropology as well as is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. She has written many technical books but has also written 21 novels as a crime writer and forensic anthropologist (as of January 2019). These novels have been translated in to 30 languages of which 20 of the novels make up the Temperance Brennen Series. There are now 21 novels that make up the series.
Her first novel of the Temperance Brennen Series called Déjà Dead won the Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel in 1997.
Kathy Reichs Temperence Brennen Series
The Temperance Brennen series stars a heroine Temperance Daessee Brennan who could be said to be a depiction of Kathy Reichs on paper due to her having the same traits, personality and job title, however, in their personal lives, they are worlds apart. Kathy Reichs uses her own life experiences to write these novels including daily activities and forensic experiences. These also influence the TV series Bones.
